It is,
I would go
Lich bane (get sheen -> boots -> Lichbane it's a must!!)
upgrade boots to Merc/Sorc
grab rod for the xtra health or a Crystal scepter (rly nice, it helps u to keep ppl in your ulti)
your prety much done now, if not situational items like zhonyas,abysall,GA

It can work...but you should have Galio or Amumu in your team for full effectiveness. And you should have cooldown reduction runes...or use some build with CDR, because without ultimate you'll be pretty weak (golem buff is also nice to have).

I played AP Nasus from time to time and it's been always challenging to time your ultimate right...but i also was able to solo three enemies at once and with ultimate up have been ridiculously hard to kill, while dealing clearly over 9000 damage.

The answer to your question is simple:
No, it is not.
It's just horrible and a wasted team slot.
Your only real source of damage would be your ult. Which can be dodged with ease.

Tank AND dps Nasus are better, in every possible situation, no matter what.

Its fun in practice games when you can deal 1.5k with a single SS on a 2sec cooldown cause those noobs let you stack SS and AP.

I dont think its viable.... his Spirit Fire has poor scaling and is easily avoided.
His ult already does nice damaga and again has poor scaling. But most of all for your ult to deal damage you need to be right in the middle of the enemy team. Without a tank build you will go down way too fast...
