It's a fairly easy fix for those who are troubled by it. Only confirmed it to work on the US server, unsure about EU. Probably works there too, language file might be named en_GB instead and be located in another 0.0.0.xx folder.

• Close any instance of League of Legends
  
• Go to the folder C:\Riot Games\League of Legends\RADS\projects\lol_game_client_en_us\manage dfiles\0.0.0.57\DATA\Menu
  
• Open the file called fontconfig_en_US.txt in Notepad/Wordpad.
  
• Find the line: tr "game_cornerdisplay_ping" = "Ping(ms): %d"
  
• Change into: tr "game_cornerdisplay_latency" = "Ping(ms): %d"
  
• Save and close the file.

Instead of seeing your ping when you press CTRL + F, it shows a piece of text "game_cornerdisplay_"
