This is a complaint.

A while ago you opened this board called:

Quote

Competitive Discussion

A forum to discuss all things related to League of Legends eSports and competitive play!

(I was already so nice to put some emphasis on the word 'all')

Where you posted a subset of rules only applying for that subforum. Apart for the fact that I found the wording to be quite arrogant, the thing that really got to me was the fact that content was only to be decided by the moderators. So, multiple people wanted a board for competitive play and then when we finally get one no one apart from this team of moderators and admins have the right to post topics, a team of admins and mods that came pretty much out of nowhere.

Weird, and totally out of place on an open board.

But ok, whatever crunches your bag of chips right?

Well, it's some time later and I open our lovely competitive board. The place to discuss ALL the things considering competitive league of legends:

[Leaguecraft ggClassic] Round of 16 Day Two Discussion Thread

[Leaguecraft ggClassic] Round of 16 Day One Discussion Thread

[Leaguecraft ggClassic] Round of 32 Day Two Discussion Thread

[Leaguecraft ggClassic] Round of 32 Day One Discussion Thread

*insert crickets chirping*

Where is ALL the content?

Is that it?

Only that ggClassic thingymajik?

Now, I go to the Reddit frontpage and I see this
(please note three things:
- It's a constantly updating board, if something is on the front page for more than 24 hours that is LONG.
- this is just the first page.
- It's the middle of the week, most tournaments occur in weekends.)

Absolute Pro League: Quarters and Semis (3 hours from this post) (self.leagueoflegends)

Where is this shit?

ALL THE CONTENT?

Or your own content?

???

I can understand stricter moderation, but not allowing people to post topics is a tad too authoritative and imo unnecessary. If the ggChronicle mods feel that they cannot moderate an open forum strictly enough to remove nonsense posts and keep the sub-forum focused, then they shouldn't be moderating here, its as simple as that.

I've lurked LC forums for about two-three years now, and the current moderating staff have done an excellent job at what they do, despite the fact that they are only volunteers.

The fact that only ggClassic games are posted on the competitive sub-forums shows either: A. That ggChronicle only plans to use this "sub-forum" for self-promotion or B. The moderating staff are lazy or too busy to be moderating an off-site forum.

Exactly. Funny thing is how they spoke how stricter moderation would lead to 'more intelligent debate'. Well, its not leading to ANY debate right now.

One of the reasons why the post stating the additional rules annoyed me. It kind of implied that the rest of the forums are a mess due to the lack of proper moderation by the volunteers on the site.

Might be true, but I blame the fact that I have a hard time taking the one adressed seriously (just like I have trouble taking you seriously), so I'm ok with that.

This wasn't a formal complaint, they can do with it whatevery they want to. I even think theres a reasonable chance that none of them will ever read this.

My thoughts exactly, the initial post, while most likely unintentional, made the ggChronicle moderators seem like they have a chip on their shoulder and as if they're doing a "favor" for the leaguecraft community. It's no way to introduce yourself to an unfamiliar community, especially a smaller one like leaguecraft. Again, it may have been unintentional, but it doesn't excuse the moderators for poor word and tone choice in their posting.

One of my first thoughts when I was reading the additional rules for the sub-forum. Overly strict moderation stifles discussion, which is why there is absolutely no discussion in the competitive forum atm.

From the sound of it, they're trying to go for a super strict competitive forum type deal. Now, I'm not speaking for everyone as to why I joined here, but I joined here because there seems to be a decent group of knowledgeable players, but for the most part, the laid back atmosphere compared to some of the others. Tried solomid and MOBAFire, like it here more.

I mean, what they're trying to do is worthwhile--allowing competitive discussion, but nigh-militant seeming moderation leads to people going in to the forum, posting something, and going "IDGAF", then using the currently-existing forums for all that discussion.

Edit section:

I'd also have to agree, "all competitive" and "only ours" are vastly different things. If it was set to be their own personal forum, they should just out-right say.

I find the whole strict competitive discussion pretty hilarious since;

-LoL isn't as competitive as others in it's genre
-This forum has few players playing at that level
-The ones that do pretty much don't give a fuck because they're too good for that pretentious drivle.

Edit: The phrase "barking up the wrong tree" comes to mind.

2nd Edit: fk this yellow bar

You don't really have to be as competitive as others in the same genre. You just have to be more popular.

Case in point: World of Warcraft(/obvioustrollbait)

But seriously, not sure what they were going for there. I mean, a competitive discussion forum or help forum where people could talk to a competitive team/have chat time and discuss game tactics would have been great. Not quite sure if that forum is a forum or a private bulletin board as it stands right now.

i find the competitive scene in LoL to be a joke honestly, and i always have. It's like the Super smash brother brawl competitive scene. does it exist? yes. is it entertaining? no. competitive SSBB is all Fox, no items, final destination, thats it. its completely stale and boring, which is how i feel about competitive LoL

While I more or less don't really watch streams other than for champs I was learning to play since I found them boring, I find watching a match of Dota2 for example or CnC a much more interesting thing to watch. With LoL you're just watching the same thing over and over again but the roles being filled by different champs.

Guys, guys, I agree with you to a certain extend but can we please go back to the point. LOL being a cool game to watch isn't even relevant, the option to actually use the board for what it was meant to be used for was the issue.
