I would if I could. The permissions need to be changed on the avatar directory, which can't be done from my end.

Well, it apparently works. Although the photo-setter still says to try photos larger than 200 pixels, when it only accepts those less than 200 pixels (I think).

Just manually resize the image before you upload it.

Nope, still broken. I've tried a 350x350, 200x200, and 175x175 version. Tried .jpg and .jpeg. Tried a version with no spaces and another with no _underscores_
