Sorry about the size, but isn't it true?

You realize champion themes are a deliberate design choice, right?

Also humping on originality is stupid. Chances are anything anyone comes up with nowadays have been done before in some way. The point in design is to make a character feel unique by rehashing and putting together things done before in a creative way, which in result gives a custom personality/theme/feel to it.

Yes, but still. Look at the similarity. You want to tell me it's a coincidence? Also, I did not make this, for your information.

I disagree with a few of them, namely:
  • Ahri/Naruto (They share their inspiration in Asian folklore)
  • Gragas/Obelix (Similar aesthetics, but that's it)
  • Heimerdinger/Martians (It's a skin, all of them have pop-culture references)
  • Karthus/Grim Reaper (Karthus' inspiration lies with the Fantasy genre classic, the Lich)
  • Malphite/The Thing (They have nothing in common, except perhaps sharing the element of Earth)
  • Shyvana/Dovahkiin (That's a stretch if I've ever seen one.)
As for the rest, I agree.
Although Riot employees, especially Morello, have always said that the visual champion design (and especially subsequent skins) contain deliberate pop-culture references, because they think that it's "fun" and "awesome" for players to hunt and find said references.

I agree with you all. And yes I do agree about Ahri and Naruto, I'm aware both of them are actual referrences of Asian folklore. Heimerdinger and Martians, yes. That's true.

I am also aware Karthus is a referrence to the Lich rather than the Grim Reaper, but I didn't make this meme so I can't really judge.

As for Shyvana, I expected an actual Dragonborn from the DnD franchise, but really - Dovahkiin? No idea how does that relate.

I agree with you both, but remember thisI DIDN'T MAKE THIS MEME. I don't take any actual credits for the "thoughts" behind this meme so I can't tell you whether you're wrong or right. All I did was sharing with the community. ;)

Whoever made this does not know what an archetype is.

EDIT: Nunu is the kid riding Willump, the Yeti. Morgana isn't the Angel of Death, she's just a fallen angel. Only thing she shares with the Angel of Death is gross, fucked up wings.

We could stand for a century, staring with our heads cocked in the broad daylight at this thing. Joy, landlocked, in bodies that don't keep dumbstruck with the sweetness of being.

The majority of the resemblances of champions to mythical creatures is intended, Anivia is a unique spin on a phoenix because she's made of ice as opposed to fire. Whoever made this meme doesn't understand intentional similarities in design, FFS Pantheons old lore said he was a Stanpar, which is an obvious anagram of Spartan (Not even a very good one at that).

This is also false on many levels, Kayle is inspired from archangel Michael and her and Morgana's lore share similarities to Paradise Lost

On top of all that, a ton of the dances are direct references to pop culture. They do it on purpose for fun, and I think the majority of the player base agrees. Here's someone who has connected a lot of the characters dances to pop culture. Edit: and the guy apparently connects the quotes as well.
